On the Way to the Future

Mobility Transition, Participation and Public Transport in Dialogue

Friday, 18 September 2026; 09:00–15:30 | Innovation Center, Saarland University | (Fully booked)

An attractive, practical, and equitable public transport system in Saarland can become a reality by developing innovative approaches, sharing experiences, and bringing together perspectives for sustainable mobility.

The joint Mobility Congress organised by the Ministry for the Environment, Climate, Mobility, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (MUKMAV), together with IZES, the Saarmila research project, and the Future – Transportation – Society (FTS) competence centre at htw saar, addresses these challenges.

The congress brings together stakeholders from politics, public administration, academia, transport companies, municipalities, and civil society, creating space for exchange, reflection, networking, and new ideas around public transport and mobility in Saarland.

What to expect:

  • engaging expert presentations on current developments and future perspectives in public transport,
  • two interactive workshop sessions offering space for discussion and networking,
  • insights from research and practice,
  • new perspectives on mobility, participation, and social justice,
  • ideas for workplace mobility management,
  • discussions on the mobility of children and young people, as well as the requirements that different lived realities place on a future-oriented mobility system,
  • concepts for more liveable cities through the ecological and social transformation of existing street space.

At the heart of the discussion is the question of how mobility in Saarland can be made sustainable, accessible, and liveable – for local communities and together with them.
